Overview

The Equality and Human Rights legislation captures the Scottish Government’s commitment to take action to further Scotland’s position as a global leader in equality and human rights. The work will frame and clearly articulate the approach and provides the foundation to ensure mainstreaming of equality and human rights are a core Government and wider public sector function and responsibility.

This survey is to enable the local Integration Joint Board to demonstrate their equality outcomes have been engaged with across a spectrum of individuals and their families and their voice is heard.

The Equality and Human Rights Mainstreaming Guidance identifies that mainstreaming the equality duty has several benefits including:

  • Equality becomes part of everything we do, within our structures, behaviours and culture,
  • We are more transparent and can demonstrate how, in carrying out our functions, we are promoting and embedding equality,
  • Mainstreaming equality contributes to continuous improvement and better performance.

The public sector equality duty places an obligation on public authorities, in the exercise of their functions, to have due regard to the need to:

  • eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation;
  • advance equality of opportunity between different groups; and
  • foster good relations between different groups.
